Winter Travel Plans

Image
Hey Y'all! I need to take new pics. This is from July... So, what are our winter travel plans? https://www.genericvan.life/2018/11/26/winterization-tips-for-vanlifers/ The plan as of now is staying here (here being NE TN) until after the new year. Amanda has a few doctors appts in December, then it's the holidays. So travel currently isn't really possible. Come January it'll depend on weather where we go, and when. The rough idea is to explore Alabama , a state neither of us has been.  It's very early in the planning stages, we just ordered the travel guide, and highway maps. We do have gps (obviously) on our phones, and Rand McNally Maps, but I thought it'd be nice to have this too.  What do we want to do in Alabama? Tour some of the Civil Rights Movement history, check out the local nature, and the gulf coast.  After Alabama? It depends on how long we stay there, maybe we'll travel to FL or Mississippi, maybe we'll be in AL the whole winter. We'l...

Top 3- Our Black Friday Must Haves

Image
Hey Y'all! The Black Friday Ads this year didn't impress us much. (Are we missing something? Let us know in the comments below.) The one store we plan to do a tiny bit of shopping is Lowes, which we'll just do online sometime in the next few weeks since these specific deals don't end until January. We're totally breaking our own tradition this year, usually we always go out into the hustle & bustle and make a day of Black Friday shopping. The three items we plan to get are: Automotive Retrieval Tool Kit  We just wanted to use ours yesterday, and found the magnet no longer works. Automotive Tire Tool We had a cheaper manual one, bust lost it in Ohio, so it's the perfect excuse to get a new one. 2pk Automotive Magnetic Tray Chris wants these, for both van stuff and working on the laptops or other small electronics. If we had decided which/how much power we wanted we'd be shopping these too: Portable Power Solar Were a little sad to be breaking a tradition...

Thanksgiving Plans

Image
Hey Y'all! What are your holiday plans? Share in the comments below. We're all going to my (Amanda) Moms, she wanted to host this year. We definitely have too much food: Ham, Turkey, Mashed Potatoes, Green Beans, Rolls, Cranberry, 2 types of Stuffing, a Cheese and Crackers plate, a Charcuterie board, Chips & Dips, Shrimp Cocktails, Banana Pudding, Apple & Pumpkin Pies, a variety of wines.... & I'm sure I missed something. We'll have leftovers, for sure. We'll eat too much, laugh freely, and talk loudly. We'll play games, share stories, and just enjoy getting together. That's what this holiday is for us. Happy Thanksgiving, The Outlands

Updates!

Image
Hey Y'all! After our 3 week trip in Brunilda we learned a lot about what we need (more organization for example) and what we don't (less clothes, especially on this trip, would have been fine). As we grow we'd like to continue to share with you, so we have a tiny giveaway. The prize is a $5 eGift Card to Walmart. To enter just leave a comment below. The winners comment will be replied to so be sure to check back on the 25th when a winner is chosen. The winner will then have 3 days to email us at outlandadventures@yahoo.com to claim, after that a new winner will be chosen on the 4th day. What are the updates? 1) We absolutely love traveling in the van, and can't wait to get back out there. Amanda has several doctors appointments in December so we're "home" until the new year, unless we can get in a few short trips. 2) The van needs a few upgrades. Belt tensioner has just been completed this past week. We changed out the radio in IN when Chris' brother...

Gadgets We Hate, Top 5!

Image
Hey Y'all! Each of these items made the list for either cost, function, or personal preference. If you love one of them, great! We're glad it's working for you.  For us the top 5 (or should it be bottom 5?) are as follows... 1) Starlink-  https://www.starlink.com/roam For us this was a combination of cost and the devices limitations. We are "home" in mountainous forested northeastern Tennessee, and travel the east most often currently, so the wide open space starlink needs is not easily found where we are currently traveling/plan to travel. So far we've had great success with visible and the unlimited hotspot for just $25mo. 2) Van Specific Bug Screens- Link is to the mid tier (price) on Amazon:   https://www.amazon.com/TUBENRY-Essentials-Mercedes-Campervans-Accessories/dp/B0BYN3C65J/ref=sr_1_145?keywords=van%2Blife%2Baccessories&qid=1700059318&sr=8-145&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.006c50ae-5d4c-4777-9bc0-4513d670b6bc&th=1 On amazon if you search v...

Brunilda's First Major Trip!

Image
Hey Y'all! We finally came up with a name for the van... BRUNILDA !  Brunilda is a girl's name of Old German origin. With a name meaning "ready for battle," Brunilda will be able for anything life throws at them. Brave and fierce, your little warrior can draw on their inner reserves to face challenges that come their way. Such a fitting name, since on this trip we did face a few challenges, and she conquered them all. Take a look here: We had quite the adventure in KY. We started off doing back roads only, but rather quickly decided that would A) Take forever  & B) Be a bit scary for our first major trip. Looking back we're both glad we changed that plan. After 20+ miles of hill, curve, and one lane roads we hopped on I-75 N at the first  opportunity. From that point to MM140ish was pretty uneventful. It misty rained a bit on & off, nothing big. We stopped to stretch and eat our packed lunch at the Artisan Center in Berea (KY).  About an hour later......
