A Quick Q & A, Van Life Style

Image
Hey Y'all, I had the idea to do a van life specific Q & A, but finding questions was harder than I thought. Eventually I came across this blog , and took the questions from there. How do you find places to sleep as a van lifer?  Sometimes is fairly easy, and you find a parking spot or campground, and hunker down. Other times it seems everywhere you try has no overnight parking signs. That's when we scour the apps, and other online resources. We like all the same ones I'm sure you've seen mentioned before. One website, that admittedly needs some updating, is  freecampsites.net but it's still a decent one to check if the others are coming up with nada . What is the hardest part of van life? For us it's the yucky days. If it's storming outside for hours on end we don't really want to venture out, but we also get bored just hanging in the van. We have a blog post recently about our rainy day activities, but they're still the hardest part. How do yo...

Tuesday's Gone (Would We Still Choose A Conversion Van?)

Image
Hey Y'all! Tuesday came and went, but I did manage to get a blog up... even if it is a day late. Are our thoughts the same now??? Why'd We Choose A Conversion Van? July 20, 2023  Hey Y'all! So, why did we choose a conversion van? After our brief trip to  Indiana , we realized a minivan was not going to work. This was already a probability in our minds, but when the offer was made we had to at least check it out, and try some planning in person. While there we just couldn't come up with a build (layout) either of us were comfortable with, being a full time couple (soon). I think for a solo traveler minivans are great. We knew long ago (2004) we liked this size van, and we had an 1988 Ford Econoline 150. We used it to move to Tennessee after our car (Chevy Caviler) was totaled, and drove it for about a year afterwards. Being from Ohio, and us being young and broke the van had too many issues for us to afford to keep.  We also knew we didn't want any towable, a standa...

It's Thursday, What's Up

Image
Hey Y'all, So, I promised some sort of blog today, and every Tues/Thur for the remainder of the month (until we get back on track). So, What's up? We're meandering back to NE Tennessee, for doctors appointments again. So far it's been eventful!  We got a late start yesterday, partly due to not being ready, getting things done in the rain, and partly because we didn't want to leave. Today we woke up, got ready, started the van, and the belt came off. It was split in several places, and Chris is thinking it was a bad part. Luckily we were carrying a spare, and after getting half way done, we got kicked out of that parking lot. So we moved, starting the process all over, and at 11am we were South bound again.  Traffic was pretty light the rest of the way on todays leg of our journey, except Cincinnati. I've always hated traveling through there anyhow, but coming |this close| to being forced off the road by a semi today was no fun. He was in the wrong lane and wasn...

Well That Was A Fail!

Image
Hey Y'all! We are way behind, our apologies! We haven't uploaded much of anything on TikTok, and no blogs or videos for quite a while. We're going to move most of this months stuff to November, and just do off the cuff stuff the rest of this month. Please stick with us, we're really trying to do better. Thanks, The Outlands

What We Do On Rainy Days

Image
Hey Y'all, Here's a short list of the things we do to occupy our time on rainy days! 1) If the rain isn't too bad, or it's not going to continue all day, we don't change our plans at all (if we had any). 2) If the weather is otherwise nice, and not too windy we'll hang out under the canopy. We'll either read, play card games, watch nature happen, take photos, or just play on our phones a bit. 3) In town chores, rainy days are great for gym & shower, and/or laundry, as well as restocking supplies. We'll try to make a day of it, start out at Planet Fitness, get that done and find a local laundromat, then check out the grocery store, followed by whatever other errands we may have. 4) Indoor event/activity. If we come across a cool (bonus points for FREE) indoor event happening, we'll check it out, even if just for a short time.  We really like Facebook for finding events we would otherwise miss. Just recently we went to a water ski show, in the rai...
