Travel Questions W/ Outland Adventures
Hey Y'all!
We figured it'd be fun to sit down for a few minutes and answer some travel questions as a kind of get to know us blog. Feel free to add your questions in the comments below and we'll add them to the list next time!
The questions can be found here:

Here we go!
- Have you ever been abroad? No for either of us. Amanda has been to Ontario, Canada.
- How many countries have you visited? See above.
- Have you visited many touristic places in your country? Several, we're ready to see more!
- What tourist places do you like to visit? State Parks, theme parks, gardens, local spots, museums, etc.
- Do you prefer visiting beaches or mountains? We both like both, but after 19 years in the mountains, bring on the beaches!
- Have you ever visited a European country? Nope.
- Have you ever visited an African country? Nope.
- What’s your best vacation memory? Pre-Van? C- Disney World, any trip. A- The Atlantic City trip, the journey really was the destination on that one.
- What’s your worst vacation memory? C-Driving home during (pre storm) hurricane Irma. A- Early on in our relationship/travels, 2002 or so, coming through WV in fog so dense it was 0 visibility.
- What countries would you like to visit? Any!
- What countries would you not like to visit? That would depend on their climate at the time (social and political).
- What’s the best place for a vacation in your country? That really depends on what you're looking for... The US is massive.
- Who do you travel with? Each other, other family members.
- Have you made friends while you are on vacation? Kinda, but neither of us is a big people person.
- Do you like to travel with children? A- Not random ones, lol. C- Out of all of the ones we know? Not the under 3 crowd.
- Do you like to travel with your parents? Loved it! Both our dad's have passed but we all like(d) to travel.
- Do you like traveling alone or in a group? Either.
- What are some of the benefits of traveling alone? Doing what you want, when you want.
- What places are you planning to visit? As many as possible! Our first big goal is the lower 48 states. We've done 16 together, Amanda has an additional 3 we'll revisit together eventually.
- Who are you planning to go with? Each other. Family will join on occasion.
- When are you planning to go? As of now, we've been a year Full Time!
- Where are you planning to stay? In our van.
- What sights are you planning to see? The tourist-y stuff, and the off the beaten path stuff. The journey is the destination.
- When will you next go to the beach? Which beach is your favorite? Hopefully soon. The favorite beach we've been to? Hmm... We both say OBX (NC) for typical beach activities. Just want to relax by the water? Wheeler Lake/TN River in Alabama.
- Where did you go on your last trip? While here in NE Tennessee dealing with health stuff we've stayed at Warriors' Path State Park, and Amanda's Mom's. We've day tripped into Bristol and Kingsport. Prior to here we enjoyed SC for 6 weeks!
- Who did you go with? Each other.
- Where did you stay? In our 1991 Chevy G20 Conversion Van, Brunilda.
- What did you do there? In TN? So much hiking, and exploring the "local" stuff we don't normally do. In SC?? So much! Check out our YouTube channel for more!
- What did you see there? In TN- family, and nature, wildlife, small cities... In SC? Small towns, large cities, Highland Cow! So many different birds, flowers, trees, waterfalls. Tours of a plantation, and BMW. So many things!
- How much money did you spend there? Food, Laundry, Camp fees, gas, etc. Tours, and our souvenir from places we can find them, is a magnet (for the van).
- Who was the most interesting person you met? Patty, the stubborn Angus. LOL!
- How long did you stay there? Did you want to stay longer? TN? We're good. We return often. SC? Absolutely, we gotta do the coastal towns!
- How much luggage do you usually carry? It's extremely important to pack light, but we haven't mastered it yet... Clothes we're good, 7 or 8 outfits (including underwear and socks), a bathing suit, and 2 PJs. It's the stuff we have trouble with.
- Do you bring electronic devices when you travel? Nowadays, they're a must. Phones, laptops, Nintendo Switch.
- What are some things you always take with you on a trip? Clothes, socks, good shoes, pillow, phone, charger.
- Do you like to pack light when you travel? Not previously, though I know we can.
- Do you think that everyone overpacks? At first, yeah.
- How many of the things do you pack do you actually use or need? Most of it... but we could scale down a bit.
- Have you ever lost your luggage? Thankfully, no. Probably because we don't fly.
- Do you worry about your luggage when you travel? Nope, it's secure.
- Do you prefer to travel by car or plane? Van.
- Have you ever bought a package tour? Does Disney count?
- Where do you prefer to stay when you go on a vacation? In our van.
- How often do you travel? Full Time, minus the aforementioned Drs. appointments.
- How often do you go camping? Like in a campground? Often.
- How long do you like vacations to be? At least 4 or 5 days.
- What means of transport do you like to use when you are on vacation? Drive, or take local shuttle/bus.
- Do you like to try local food when you travel? Absolutely. Amanda more so than Chris.
- What is the best age to travel? Any age. Really though, when you're old enough to remember it, and young enough to get around well.
- Where do you like to stay when you go on vacation? A-Did you not ask this already? C- Anywhere, everywhere!
- Are you a traveler? Obviously.
- What do you miss the most when you are traveling? Family.
- Have you ever had an accident while traveling? A- No. C- That's not true.. remember hydroplaning in VA (on our way to NC)? Totaled that Cavalier, and your Dad came from Ohio to get us? And thankfully you weren't with me when you're Dad and I were moving our stuff... A- Yeah, Mom, Kat and I were in KY- we were going to meet up there, so when you and Dad showed up without the car, I thought nothing of it at first. C- Yeah, flipped that Cavalier a few times when that F 250 rear-ended me on I-81. A- Dad said that was the most horrific thing he'd ever watched, and not a thing he could do about it (following behind with a truck and trailer). C- And that's when we decided Cavaliers were not for us. Two in 3ish years was enough.
- Have you ever been on a cruise? Nope. Been on boat tours plenty though!
- What do you think about hitchhiking? A-I'm not picking you up, and I'm not getting picked up by who knows what kind of creep. C- Yeah.
- If money was not an issue, what type of holiday would you take? We're planning it, the lower 48. One step at a time.
- Have you ever missed a flight? What happened? N/A as we don't fly.
- Do you follow travel blogs? A-Not really. C- No.
- Do you follow Travel YouTube channels? A- Van Life ones, yeah- travel in general no. C- And RV travel, but other than that yeah, no.
- Do you usually search for videos or posts about the countries or places you are trying to visit? A- Places, some- not much yet. C- We watch one van life couple from FL, they're currently in Europe. Cool to watch, and they go some really awesome places, but it's not the (type of) travel we plan to do.
- Have Travel blogs or channels make you want to travel more? For sure! We're so ready!
Bonus:
- What are some of the safest places to travel to? A- Pretty much any place can be sketchy, just know your surroundings, and if it feels "off" leave. C- Major cities are a place we'll rarely stay.
- Have you ever been robbed when traveling? Thankfully, no.
- Do you only travel to the safest countries? Currently the plans are all US based, so...
- Do you share your travel information with someone you trust? Not like we should. Probably need to tell someone ICE...
- Do you worry about how much you drink when traveling? A- Like getting enough water? No, we always pack plenty, and make stops every couple hours. It ain't a race.
- Do you try not to draw attention when traveling? C- Yes, and no. Sometimes it's pretty obvious that people are living in the vehicle, or traveling. It's another part of the reason we chose a pretty non descript van. That said her age alone gets some attention. Just last week we got two "Awesome van, my uncle had one of those." comments. A- I'm aware of my surroundings, but really I'm not paying attention to others. Also, in the comments the van gets, why is it always an uncle?! LOL.
- Do you wear jewelry when you travel? A- Sometimes yeah, sometimes no.
- Are you aware of scams when you travel? A- Yeah. Also I'm not a people person... or nice. C- You're nice. A- Not to strangers. I'll just keep on moving, IDC about your "cause"/sob story/leaflet. Don't need to talk to you about anything. Bye!
- Do you Keep digital copies of important documents? You have to, no use wasting space on all that paper. (The paper copies are safe, just not on us.)
