Full-Time RV Life & The Holidays: Staying Festive on the Road
🎄Full-Time RV Life & The Holidays: Staying Festive on the Road
When you live full-time on the road, the holidays look a little different. No big house to decorate. No attic full of ornaments. No seven-foot tree (unless you count that one inflatable we thought would fit in the RV... it didn’t).
But different doesn’t mean less magical.
Out here, holiday cheer comes in smaller packages—twinkling lights strung under the awning, cinnamon candles flickering on the counter, and maybe a wreath made from pinecones we found on a hike. Every mile brings a new kind of celebration, and that’s part of the charm.
🎁 Cozy Spaces, Big Spirit
We’ve learned that it doesn’t take much to feel festive in a tiny space. A strand of fairy lights instantly turns the RV into a cozy winter nook. We hang stockings on the cabinet handles, play our favorite holiday playlist, and let the smell of hot cocoa fill the air.
Amanda’s crafting magic usually comes into play here—mini wreaths, handmade ornaments, maybe even a garland or two (glitter-free, of course). Chris handles the cooking, turning the stovetop into a holiday kitchen with his famous skillet stuffing and one-pan cranberry chicken.
🎅 Finding Festivity on the Road
Small towns across America go all out for the holidays. From tree-lighting ceremonies in the town square to parades where Santa arrives on a firetruck, we’ve found that no matter where you park, there’s a community ready to celebrate.
One year, we stumbled into a Christmas market in a town we didn’t even plan to visit in South Carolina—it had carolers, cocoa, and more handmade goods than Amanda could fit in her craft bin. Another time, we joined a campground potluck where everyone brought a dish from their family traditions. We left with full plates, new friends, and about six different cookie recipes.
🌟 Creating New Traditions
When you travel full-time, the usual routines shift. Instead of one big family gathering, we’ve learned to make the season our own. Maybe that means video calls with loved ones while snow drifts outside the RV, or taking a drive through neighborhoods decked out in lights.
Every year, we pick one small keepsake from wherever we’re celebrating—a handmade ornament, a postcard, or even a rock from a favorite hike—and add it to our growing collection. It’s our way of carrying those memories with us, mile after mile.
🕯️ Home Is Wherever You Park It
Whether you’re surrounded by palm trees, snow, or desert sagebrush, the holidays on the road are a reminder: home isn’t about square footage or tradition—it’s about warmth, love, and a little sparkle of your own making.
So light the candles, hang the tiny stockings, and let your adventure glow bright this holiday season.
Happy Holidays from the road,
—Chris & Amanda, Outland Adventures
