Things About Preparing For Van Life That Just Make Sense...

 Hey Y'all!

In this blog we're sharing things about van life that just make sense... I'm sure you've seen the memes and videos on social media.

We've been slacking on the social media things, especially our YouTube lately.

So here's our list:

Van Life Things That Just Make Sense

Van life is a unique lifestyle that requires thoughtful planning and preparation. Here are some things that just make sense in this nomadic way of living:

Essential Gear:

  • Portable power: Solar panels, inverters, and batteries are must-haves for powering your appliances and devices. (As you may know we've opted for solar and a power bank, that's working well for us!)
  • Water storage: A reliable water tank, filtration system, and a way to heat water for showers and cooking. (We have a 5 gal tank, and a solar shower, but we use Planet Fitness a lot for our shower needs.)
  • Cooking equipment: A compact stove, cookware, and utensils for preparing meals on the road. (As we've written about before we have a 17in Blackstone, and a single burner propane bottle top cooker, as well as all the utensils.)
  • Storage solutions: Clever storage ideas like shelves, drawers, and hanging organizers to maximize space. (You've seen our storage before, in blogs and videos- we are currently updating and will share that soon.)
  • Comfort essentials: A comfortable bed, pillows, blankets, and curtains for privacy and a cozy sleeping environment. (Just this past summer we built our bed, and we recently shared our new bedding.)

Lifestyle Adaptations:

  • Minimalism: Living in a small space requires a minimalist approach to possessions.
  • Flexibility: Be prepared to adapt to changing plans and unexpected situations.
  • Community: Connect with other van dwellers for support, advice, and shared experiences.
  • Self-sufficiency: Learn basic skills like car maintenance, cooking, and first aid.
  • Nature appreciation: Embrace the outdoors and enjoy the freedom of exploring new places.

Tips for a Successful Van Life:

  • Plan your route: Research campsites, national parks, and free camping areas.
  • Stay organized: Keep your van clean and tidy to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
  • Set a budget: Track your expenses to ensure you're staying within your financial limits.
  • Take breaks: Don't overexert yourself and schedule downtime to rest and recharge.
  • Embrace the journey: Enjoy the adventure and appreciate the unique lifestyle you've chosen.

Remember, van life is a personal journey, and what works for one person may not work for another. Experiment, learn, and adapt to create your own perfect van life experience.
