SC Campground Reviews...
Hey Y'all!
We've stayed in more campgrounds in SC than anywhere else (outside of our home state of TN)..
So let's review them:
Campground Reviews-
Pine Ridge, in Roebuck
Woodsmoke, in Irmo
Outside Inn, near Orangeburg/Santee
I did review all of them on Google, so I'll share that first:
All 3 offered full hook up, all had a bath house, laundry facility, and offered a weekly rate. Our favorite was by far Outside Inn. It really had so much to offer and was such a unique experience!
They were all quiet, clean, and friendly. All were about the same price per night/week.
Pine Ridge:
Offered a game room open 24/7 with pool table, air hockey, and checkers. Outside they had giant connect 4, horse shoes, a bounce pad, a playground, dog park, walking trail, various other outdoor games, a catch and release pond, and (seasonally) a pool. (The only one of the three with a pool!) There's also an office open daily, it has all the essentials and some neat merch.
Not all spots are paved, some are gravel, the roads around the park could use some work, the patched spots have given up and it's pretty rough throughout. The premium spots all have a table with umbrella. One (33) offers a fireplace, while another has a swing.
This one was the cleanest, the bath house and laundry (which was cheapest here) are cleaned daily, as are the grounds. This one was also the steepest incline to get into, but we are in the Upcountry here. Spots were all pretty level.
Pine Ridge also seems busiest, or more active... There's always someone outside, doing something. It's nice to see people enjoying the outdoors so late in the year.
All the staff was great!
Would we stay again? Um.... we are currently. It's our first and last campground stop in SC. It was also most convenient at the best price for the things/places we wanted to see in the Upcountry.
Woodsmoke:
This one is very hands off. There is no store, no office, and no noise.
Woodsmoke does offer 2 bathrooms on each side of the bath house, with laundry in the center. (Another laundry facility is at the front of the park, but no toilets, or showers.) The bathrooms consist of toilet, sink, mirror, two benches, and an open shower. There was only one or 2 other ladies that used the shower, and a handful of men on that side. Most everyone cleaned up after themselves pretty well, so these stayed clean.
It's all gravel, and really could use another load to fill in some of the rough spots. Not all sites are the same, some like ours (32) pictured above, are MASSIVE. However 31, across from us was immediately behind the previous row, placing the site in the "yard" of two others. There's no room for slides, table, or a fire pit in that one.
They do allow tent camping, and have more primitive camping behind the pond (catch and release fishing) as well.
Because this is nestled in the woods we saw a lot of birds, and squirrels. There is a housing development along one side and in the rear, behind the pond and tent area, so while you don't really notice it in the campground I'm sure it affects the wildlife that may be around.
We saw no staff the entire week we were there. So if hands on is your jam, this is not the place for you.
Woodsmoke was by far the quietest!
Would we stay again? If there were things in/near Columbia we wanted to do, probably.
Outside Inn:
The Farm! While there is no office, the owners are very hands on. They and the entire staff are great.
Outside Inn offers farm tours, a trail system that is very well marked, a communal area with seating, a large fire pit, and various outdoor games. The animals are all friendly and love attention!
The Bath house has 2 full bathrooms, 2 half baths, and laundry. (Ask for the laundry code, and either scan the QR code to pay or use the drop box.)
The drive and sites are gravel (and sand) but it's all well graded and level. There is a drop box for packages about a quarter of the way in, so that was nice.
At the time of our stay they were working on tent sites, and a pond.
Outside of farm animals we saw the most wildlife during our stay here.
We enjoyed the chickens checking on us during the day, but if farms/animals aren't your thing Outside Inn is not for you.
There is no store, but they have a self serve kiosk with firewood, fire starter, and snacks for the animals.
Star gazing here was the best!
Would we stay again? Well... we extended our stay during that leg of our journey, and since it's so convenient to both I 26 and I 95, absolutely we'll stay again.
Thanks,
The Outlands
