Campground Tour: Pioneer Family Campground (Lake Village, IN)
๐️ Life at Pioneer: Our Current Campground Home
Hey y’all! We’re Amanda & Chris — the full-time RV couple behind Outland Adventures.
We’ve been workamping here at Pioneer in beautiful Northwest Indiana for a few months now, and we figured it’s about time we give you a little tour of the place we’ve been calling home this season.
Let’s take a walk through it together, shall we?
๐ฒ First Impressions
As you pull in, you're greeted by a lovely row of pines lining the entrance — it gives the place a peaceful, tucked-away feel right from the start. Just ahead is the camp office and store, where Amanda spends her days helping guests, answering phones, handling reservations, and keeping things running smoothly.
Right past the office is the gated entry — every camper gets their own unique code for secure, easy access.
๐งญ Left Turn Tour
If you hang a left after the gate, you'll cruise past the essentials:
-
The dump station (not that we need it — Wildebeest has no black tank!)
-
Dumpsters for trash and recycling
-
The Rec Hall, where events happen
-
A bathhouse with showers and flush toilets (which we definitely make use of!)
-
And the main playground, perfect for kiddos to burn off that campfire s’mores energy.
This stretch leads you into the nightly, weekly, and monthly sites — a mix of travelers and semi-permanent folks. It's a lively part of the campground and always full of interesting neighbors.
⛰️ Heading Up the Hill
As you climb the hill, you’ll enter the seasonal section, where longer-term campers settle in for the season. Back here, it’s a bit quieter, with a cozy community vibe.
There’s another, smaller playground nestled near the woods, and a volleyball net for impromptu games and sunny afternoon fun.
The road loops and splits in places, but the main path eventually leads you:
-
Along the pond, where folks fish, swim, or just sit and relax
-
And then we're back up behind the Rec Hall, circling toward the front of the campground
๐ ️ Our Roles at Pioneer
Chris spends most of his work days doing landscaping and maintenance — trimming trees, fixing things, and making sure the grounds stay in tip-top shape. If something’s broken or needs trimming, he’s on it.
Amanda keeps the store and front office running like clockwork — handling check-ins, chatting with campers, and making sure the fridge is stocked with popsicles and the icemaker's not jammed.
We love being part of a place that feels like a mix of summer camp, tiny village, and outdoor escape. Pioneer has been a great home base while we soak up small-town charm and plan our next adventure.
Have a favorite campground you've stayed at recently? Let us know — we might just see you there next!
