Balancing Hobbies on the Road
🎨🕹️ Balancing Hobbies on the Road: The Reality
We’re Amanda & Chris, full-time travelers in Wildebeest, our 1990 Ford E350 shuttle bus conversion. Life on the road is full of adventures, but it’s also full of tiny-space challenges — especially when it comes to keeping our creative hobbies alive.
✂️ Crafting in Close Quarters
Amanda loves to craft — it’s part of who she is. But in a 1990 shuttle bus, crafting comes with its own set of quirks. A stray spool of ribbon can roll across the floor and hide under the bed for days. Glitter? Don’t even get us started (it's banned). Amanda has learned to get creative with storage, sometimes using baskets, bins, or fold-out trays just to keep supplies contained. And cleanup? It’s always a scavenger hunt..
🖥️ Gaming & Coding in Tight Spaces
Chris thrives on his digital worlds — coding video games, editing videos, or sketching ideas for ShadowWolf Studios. But the RV desk is small, Wi-Fi can be unpredictable, and screen glare from the windows is a constant nemesis. Sometimes he has to relocate to a campground picnic table just to finish a project, or we both huddle around a laptop in the tiniest corner of Wildebeest to collaborate.
🧩 Finding Balance
The trick is making space — literally and figuratively — for both of us. That means scheduling hobby time around travel, workamping duties, and shared downtime. It means knowing when to step aside for the other to focus. And it means laughing at the chaos when crafting supplies are everywhere or cords are tangled beyond reason.
Even with the challenges, having our own creative outlets keeps us motivated, inspired, and happy. It’s our little corner of normalcy in a constantly changing world on wheels.
📍Currently: Dodging glitter and untangling charging cords.
Do you have hobbies that you love even when space is tight or life is a little chaotic?
