Cooking on the Road: Easy Meals for Your Propane Stove or Blackstone
🍳 Cooking on the Road: Easy Meals for Your Propane Stove or Blackstone
We’re Amanda & Chris, full-time travelers in Wildebeest, our 1990 Ford E350 shuttle bus conversion. One of our favorite parts of life on the road? Cooking our own meals wherever we park. Whether it’s a cozy propane stove inside the bus or a sizzling Blackstone griddle outside, good food keeps us fueled for adventures, workamping duties, and long drives.
Life in a small space has taught us a few things: you don’t need fancy ingredients, and a little creativity can turn a simple meal into something memorable.
🔥 Tips & Tricks for Cooking on the Road
-
Plan for Limited Space:
With limited counter and prep area, we keep ingredients simple — chicken, ground beef, or sausage, paired with a handful of fresh or frozen veggies, can turn into multiple meals. -
One-Pan Wonders Are Lifesavers:
Skillets and griddles mean less cleanup and more time for exploring or relaxing. We often cook protein and veggies together on one surface — simple, filling, and flavorful. -
Prep Smart:
Chopping veggies or seasoning meat ahead of time saves time and keeps cooking stress-free. Amanda keeps small containers and bags organized, so ingredients are ready when Chris starts the fire. -
Use Heat Wisely:
Propane stoves are perfect for simmering sauces, soups, or pasta, while the Blackstone is unbeatable for searing, stir-frying, or making a hearty breakfast spread. -
Invest in Multi-Use Tools:
A solid spatula, tongs, and cast-iron pan can handle almost any meal. On the Blackstone, silicone utensils prevent scratching and make flipping burgers or veggies effortless. -
Seasoning is Everything:
A small spice kit can transform the same ingredients into completely different meals. Favorites in our RV? Garlic powder, smoked paprika, chili flakes, and a splash of Worcestershire or soy sauce. -
Batch Cooking:
Cook extra for lunch the next day or for a quick meal after a long travel day. It’s efficient and keeps us from eating out too often.
