Sunday Funny Story #7: Turkey Races in Tiny Town

Image
Turkey Races in Tiny Town *A total work of fiction, character names are real people in our lives- every thing else is made up.* (Cast: Chris, Amanda, Emerald, and Caleb.) If you’ve ever thought you’d seen it all at a small-town festival—think again. Tiny Town doesn’t do pig races.  Nope.  They do turkey races . When we pulled into town, the hand-painted sign by the fairgrounds said it all: “Annual Turkey Trot & Gobble-Off—Welcome Racers!” How could we not stop? The lineup was fierce (and hilarious): Glitter Gobbler — My pick, naturally. She had a sparkle in her eye and the sass to match. Turbo Tom — Chris’s choice, a speedy little feathered bullet with attitude. Funnel Feather — Emerald’s pick, though honestly, she spent more time chasing snacks than racing. Cluck Norris — Caleb’s confident contender, ready to take on the world—or at least the next turkey over. When the whistle blew, chaos erupted.  Turkeys scattered in every direction—...

Balancing Hobbies on the Road

Image
🎨🕹️ Balancing Hobbies on the Road: The Reality We’re Amanda & Chris, full-time travelers in Wildebeest , our 1990 Ford E350 shuttle bus conversion . Life on the road is full of adventures, but it’s also full of tiny-space challenges — especially when it comes to keeping our creative hobbies alive. ✂️ Crafting in Close Quarters Amanda loves to craft — it’s part of who she is. But in a 1990 shuttle bus, crafting comes with its own set of quirks. A stray spool of ribbon can roll across the floor and hide under the bed for days. Glitter? Don’t even get us started (it's banned). Amanda has learned to get creative with storage, sometimes using baskets, bins, or fold-out trays just to keep supplies contained. And cleanup? It’s always a scavenger hunt.. 🖥️ Gaming & Coding in Tight Spaces Chris thrives on his digital worlds — coding video games, editing videos, or sketching ideas for ShadowWolf Studios . But the RV desk is small, Wi-Fi can be unpredictable, and screen ...

Easy Snacks & Minimal-Cook Meals on the Road

Image
🍽️ Easy Snacks & Minimal-Cook Meals on the Road We’re Amanda & Chris, full-time travelers in Wildebeest , our 1990 Ford E350 shuttle bus conversion . Not every day on the road calls for a full stovetop or Blackstone feast — sometimes, you just want something quick, satisfying, and low-effort . Over the years, we’ve discovered our go-to snacks and minimal-cook meals that keep us fueled without taking over our small space. 🥪 Sandwiches & Wraps Simple, versatile, and portable — sandwiches and wraps are a road trip staple. A few favorites: Turkey, cheese, and spinach on whole wheat Peanut butter, banana, and honey on a tortilla Hummus, cucumber, and roasted red pepper wraps Pro Tip: Keep ingredients pre-sliced in small containers so you can grab-and-go anytime. 🥗 Quick Salads A little prep goes a long way. Mix pre-washed greens, chopped veggies, canned beans or tuna, and a drizzle of olive oil or vinaigrette. Bonus: Add croutons, nuts, or cheese ...

Cooking on the Road: Easy Meals for Your Propane Stove or Blackstone

Image
🍳 Cooking on the Road: Easy Meals for Your Propane Stove or Blackstone We’re Amanda & Chris, full-time travelers in Wildebeest , our 1990 Ford E350 shuttle bus conversion. One of our favorite parts of life on the road? Cooking our own meals wherever we park. Whether it’s a cozy propane stove inside the bus or a sizzling Blackstone griddle outside, good food keeps us fueled for adventures, workamping duties, and long drives. Life in a small space has taught us a few things: you don’t need fancy ingredients, and a little creativity can turn a simple meal into something memorable. 🔥 Tips & Tricks for Cooking on the Road Plan for Limited Space: With limited counter and prep area, we keep ingredients simple — chicken, ground beef, or sausage, paired with a handful of fresh or frozen veggies, can turn into multiple meals. One-Pan Wonders Are Lifesavers: Skillets and griddles mean less cleanup and more time for exploring or relaxing. We often cook protein and ve...

Sunday Funny Story #5- The Drive-Thru Vampire Museum

Image
The Drive-Thru Vampire Museum Cast: Amanda, Chris, Beth, Billy It started, as most of our strangest adventures do, with a billboard that was too weird to ignore. “World’s Only Drive-Thru Vampire Museum — Next Exit!” Chris slowed down just enough for me to snap a picture of the faded sign. A cartoon vampire with glowing red eyes promised “NO SUNSCREEN REQUIRED!” while pointing a plastic finger toward a gravel side road. “Please tell me we’re going,” I said, grinning. “Obviously,” Chris replied, already signaling to turn. “World’s only drive-thru vampire museum? That’s destiny.” Beth clapped her hands. “I love roadside oddities! Let’s see some vampires in minivans!” Billy, riding shotgun, groaned. “If something jumps out at us, I’m suing.” The narrow gravel road wound through overgrown trees until we reached a hand-painted sign reading “Welcome, Mortal Guests — Turn Headlights to Dim and Proceed Slowly.” Below it, another wooden board: “Admission $5 per Vehicle. Honk On...

Our Creative Hobbies on the Road

Image
🎨🕹️ Our Creative Hobbies on the Road We’re Amanda & Chris, full-time travelers in Wildebeest, our 1990 Ford E350 shuttle bus conversion. While we spend a lot of our days exploring, workamping, and sharing our adventures here at Outland Adventures , we also each have our own creative worlds that keep us inspired and grounded on the road. ✂️ Craftin’ Wife’s Creations (Amanda) For Amanda, crafting is a little slice of home no matter where we park. She loves diving into new projects — from seasonal décor to handmade gifts — and sharing them through Craftin’ Wife’s Creations . Traveling in a small space can make crafting a challenge (glitter and yarn have a mind of their own), but that just adds to the fun. Amanda’s projects bring color and creativity into our everyday life, and they’ve even become a way to connect with others who love DIY as much as she does. 🖥️ ShadowWolf Studios (Chris) Chris is the tech-savvy gamer and writer behind ShadowWolf Studios . Whether he’s c...

The Challenges of Camping in Every Season

Image
🌦️ The Challenges of Camping in Every Season We’re Amanda & Chris, full-time travelers in Wildebeest, our 1990 Ford E350 shuttle bus conversion. As much as we love camping in every season, we’ve learned that each one brings its own quirks and challenges. Life on the road isn’t always picture-perfect — sometimes it’s muddy boots, sweaty nights, or frozen hoses. But those challenges? They’re part of the adventure. 🌸 Spring: Mud & Allergies Spring is beautiful, but it can also mean muddy campsites, unpredictable rain, and pollen covering everything (including our camp chairs). We’ve learned to always have tarps, good shoes, and allergy meds at the ready. ☀️ Summer: Heat & Crowds Summer is prime camping season, but it can be hot — really hot. Shade and fans become essential, and sometimes you have to get creative to beat the heat. Campgrounds are also busiest this time of year, which means more noise and less privacy. 🍂 Fall: Shorter Days & Chillier Nights ...

Sunday Funny Story #6- The Great Gnome Gathering

Image
The Great Gnome Gathering (Cast: Amanda, Chris, Jaxon, Christina) Somewhere between “Why not?” and “Wait, is that a gnome riding a flamingo?”—we found ourselves pulling into the Annual Gnome Gathering . The park looked like a magical explosion of red hats and rosy cheeks. Hundreds of garden gnomes dotted the grass, perched on picnic tables, hung from trees, and even floated in the pond on tiny rafts. Someone had gone all in on the theme. Amanda was already giggling before she even stepped out of Wildebeest . “Chris, they have a gnome photo booth !” she said, pointing at a painted cutout where you could stick your face through a bearded hole. Jaxon, with his perfectly scruffy beard, didn’t even try to compete—but somehow ended up winning “Best Beard” anyway. The judges said it had “authentic gnome spirit.” He looked both confused and proud when they gave him a felt hat and a wooden mushroom trophy . Christina, meanwhile, made a beeline for the craft booths. By the end of th...

Sunday Funny Story #4: The Haunted Potato Shack

Image
🥔 The Haunted Potato Shack *A total work of fiction, character names are real people in our lives- every thing else is made up.* (Cast: Chris, Amanda, Kathleen, and Doug) Sometimes, the best detours are the ones you don’t plan. We were somewhere between “absolutely lost” and “mildly starving” when we spotted a hand-painted sign: “Fresh Veggies & Fries Ahead!” A roadside produce stand sounded perfect—stretch the legs, grab a snack, maybe pick up some sweet corn. But when we pulled into the gravel lot, it wasn’t a veggie stand at all. A sagging banner flapped in the wind, reading: “Spudtacular Screams—Idaho’s Most Terrifying Tater Experience!” Kathleen looked skeptical. “Are we really doing this?” Chris was already out of the RV, camera in hand, eyes gleaming like a kid on Halloween night. “Absolutely. Haunted potatoes? How can we not ?” The entrance was shaped like a massive baked potato, complete with fake butter oozing down the sides. A fog machine puffed out “steam,...

The Joys of Camping in Every Season

Image
🌿 The Joys of Camping in Every Season We’re Amanda & Chris, traveling full-time in Wildebeest , our 1990 Ford E350 shuttle bus conversion . One of the biggest surprises we’ve found on the road is just how different — and magical — camping feels in every season. The landscapes, the routines, even the way we connect with fellow campers all shift with the weather. Instead of chasing only “perfect” weather, we’ve learned to embrace the joys each season brings. 🌸 Spring: Fresh Starts The world feels like it’s waking up again — blooming flowers , longer days, and that perfect “not too hot, not too cold” air. Campgrounds start buzzing as travelers return, but it’s often still quiet enough to feel peaceful. Nothing beats that first campfire of the year with a chill in the air and a hoodie pulled tight. ☀️ Summer: Classic Camping Vibes Summer is what most people picture when they think of camping. Long days, swimming holes , cookouts , and kids riding bikes until the sun set...

Top 10 Myths About Full-Time RV Life

Image
🚐 Top 10 Myths About Full-Time RV Life (and the Truth) We’re Amanda & Chris, traveling full-time in Wildebeest , our 1990 Ford E350 shuttle bus conversion . After a couple of years on the road, we’ve heard (and lived through) just about every assumption people make about full-time RV life. Some are hilarious, some are frustrating, and some have a little truth to them — but most are myths. Here are the top 10 misconceptions we hear the most (and the reality behind them): 1. Myth: RV Life is Just One Big Vacation Truth: It’s still life. We work, we clean, we budget, we stress. Yes, the scenery is better — but laundry still piles up. 2. Myth: You Need a Huge, Fancy RV to Go Full-Time Truth: Nope! Wildebeest is a 1990 shuttle bus conversion with quirks galore. It works for us because we made it ours — not because it’s shiny or new. Our previous rig? A 1991 Chevy G20... If it works for you it's the right RV. 3. Myth: Full-Time RVers Are Always on the Move Truth: We s...

Sunday Funny Story #3- UFO Days in Cornfield County

Image
UFO Days in Cornfield County 👽 *A total work of fiction, character names are real people in our lives- every thing else is made up.* (Cast: Amanda, Chris, Kagan, Paris) Sometimes the best adventures happen when you follow the weirdest signs. We were cruising along a quiet backroad when we spotted it—a hand-painted sign propped up beside a cornfield that read: “ Alien Invasion Weekend —This Way!” Chris didn’t even slow down before I said, “We’re going.” The next thing we knew, Wildebeest was rumbling toward the small town of Cornfield County, population maybe 400 on a normal day—but that weekend, it felt like every UFO enthusiast in the Midwest had landed. The whole place was glowing. Literally. Every shopfront was strung with green lights, alien cutouts peeked from behind dusty windows, and someone had transformed the old tractor into a “ spacecraft ” using duct tape, soda cans, and a questionable amount of tinfoil. A parade rolled through town led by a guy riding that...

Full-Time RV Life: The Pros & Cons

Image
🚐 Full-Time RV Life: The Pros & Cons We’re Outland Adventures, aka Amanda & Chris, traveling full-time in Wildebeest, our 1990 Ford E350 shuttle bus conversion. What started as a leap into the unknown has turned into a lifestyle that’s equal parts adventure and challenge. Living in an RV full-time often sounds like a dream — and in many ways, it is. But like anything worth doing, it comes with its highs and lows. Here are some of the things we’ve learned along the way: 🌟 The Pros Freedom to Roam We’re not tied to one place. Mountains this month, lakes the next — we just point Wildebeest in the right direction and go. Changing Scenery Our backyard changes constantly. Cornfield sunsets, lakeside mornings, small-town main streets — no two weeks ever look the same. Simplicity Living small means less clutter and fewer distractions. Everything we own has a place and a purpose. Meeting Incredible People From campground neighbors to fellow workampers, we’ve met amaz...
